Dr. Washington served as the Co-Principal Investigator (Community and Patient Engagement) from the original CEERIAS. Knitasha has earned the recognition of being a prominent figure in healthcare transformation serving in the capacity of thought-leader, advocate, researcher, and performance improvement expert.  Dr. Washington has worked with healthcare systems, U.S. government agencies, and numerous policymaker groups to ensure that patient-centered and equitable approaches are at the heart of healthcare redesign.  Dr. Washington founded and serves as President & CEO of ATW Health Solutions, a management consulting and research firm based in Chicago.  She is a board member for the National Quality Forum (Washington DC). Shaped by her passion and belief in social justice, Knitasha has earned recognition nationally for her work in quality improvement, patient and family engagement, health equity, and patient safety.

Dr. Prabhakaran served as the Principal Investigator for the original CEERIAS research project. Shyam is currently Professor and Chair of Neurology at the University of Chicago. He is a stroke neurologist who has led several projects to understand the epidemiology of stroke in Chicago and disparities in acute stroke treatment including the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI; CEERIAS: AD-1310-07237) funded study of disparities in awareness and activation of 9-1-1 after stroke in Chicago’s south side. He chairs the Chicago Regional Stroke Advisory Committee and helped develop and draft the pre-hospital stroke policies and procedures which were implemented in March 2011 and again in November 2018. These policies encourage patients who are suspected of having a stroke to call 9-1-1 and ensure rapid evaluation and triage to hospitals with the highest level of stroke care possible.

Dr. Aggarwal served as the CO-Principal Investigator (Clinical Community Engagement) for the original CEERIAS project. Neelum brings great expertise and leadership to 2CEERIAS resulting from her unwavering commitment to providing in the field knowledge and understanding of engaging acute stroke patients and families.  Her work in the COVID-19 Environment provides guidance and direction to the design and approach taken for this dissemination grant. Presently Dr. Aggarwal serves as the senior examining neurologist for three (3) large scale community-based studies in Chicago’s underrepresented and under-resourced communities: the Rush Clinical Core of the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (P30AG010161), the Chicago Health and Aging Project (CHAP) and Preserving Cognitive Resilience: A Biracial Parent Offspring Study (R01AG058679). For all of these studies, She has been involved in the design and implementation of the necessary clinical and research data collection forms that encompass psychosocial, behavioral, and culturally relevant questions in our cohorts.
